COMMON QUESTIONS

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any additional questions.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO SEE A THERAPIST?

It's natural to experience highs and lows. If these feelings persist or impact your daily life, it might be time to seek professional help. If you are experiencing strained relationships, feeling ‘stuck’, or continually worrying about the future while struggling to let go of the past, you may consider reaching out.

WHY WOULD I SPEAK TO A THERAPIST INSTEAD OF A FRIEND?

Friends offer comfort and familiarity; therapists bring professional training, objectivity, confidentiality, and clear boundaries to the table. With a therapist, the focus is solely on you and your well-being.

IS THERAPY CONFIDENTIAL

Confidentiality and trust are critical in therapy. As a Registered Social Worker, I am bound by the standards of practice established by my regulatory body. Confidentiality will be thoroughly discussed during your initial session.

DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON  SESSIONS?

I provide online counselling sessions to ensure that regardless of your location in  Western Canada, I can support you.

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

If you are ready to book an appointment please click here. You will have the option of booking a 1-hour session or scheduling a complimentary phone consultation to determine if we will be a good fit and my services align with your needs.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel, please provide 24-hours notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24-hours notice will incur a full-session fee.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST THERAPY SESSION?

First-time jitters? That’s absolutely normal. The very act of seeking therapy and taking that first step can bring a whirlwind of emotions to the surface. At the initial session there is no need to arrange your thoughts in a specific order or present a polished narrative. Just show up as you genuinely are. My approach blends authenticity, expertise and experience, all wrapped up in genuine warmth. This initial session is my opportunity to get an understanding of your world, allowing us to collaboratively identify the therapeutic approach best suited for you.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST SESSION?

Stay open to the experience, consider jotting down specific topics you'd like to discuss, and speak your truth. It is okay to be anxious, but remember: this is your time.

DO I NEED TO COMPLETE TASKS OUTSIDE OF OUR SESSIONS?

Absolutely, and it's a crucial part of the therapeutic process. Let's use an analogy: Consider the difference between receiving a massage and participating in physical therapy. A massage is a passive approach where you are cared for by another’s expertise, providing temporary relief and relaxation. In contrast, physical therapy requires your active participation and continuous effort, promoting long-term healing and improvement.

Our therapy sessions are a blend of both; they are a space where you are supported and guided (like a massage), but also where you are encouraged to be an active participant in your healing process (like physical therapy). Much of the growth, learning, and healing will happen outside of our sessions, as you practice and integrate the skills and strategies you have learned.

WILL I BE IN THERAPY FOREVER?

The journey through therapy varies for everyone. The duration often hinges on your concerns, your therapy goals, and how often you are able attend sessions. Some clients find resolution in 4-5 sessions, others might take 10-15 or even longer. It is also common to pause therapy, apply the skills learned, then reconnect for a refresher. We live in a culture that is accustomed to instant gratification and quick fixes. In contrast, therapy is more like a long-term investment in yourself. Once we have discussed your needs in our initial session, a more accurate timeframe can be determined.

This differs from person to person. Setting clear goals may be a helpful benchmark. Life has its ups and downs, therapy can support you in regulating your emotions, reframing negative thoughts, healing from the past and cultivate inner peace. Your progress can be an ongoing conversation throughout your therapy journey.
